Artist Statement

I make art to express what I otherwise find inexpressible. For me, creating develops from the inside out.

A new piece begins in a sort of incubation period where the overall idea is forming and I am observing, drawing, and collecting the details of form and color for each element in the piece. As the composition emerges, areas are consciously left blank to unfold in the act of creating.

On heavy paper or bristol board I choose to use crayon and colored pencil for their properties of raw color. layering, transparency and texture.
