Karine Kadiyska is a Boston based artist who works both in 2-D and 3-D mediums. Her work is based in a figurative tradition, and yet stands apart from it with the simplicity of execution and directness of expression. Her 2-D work is primarily rapidly executed brush drawings of flora. In these drawings, she carves the groundsheet with simple energetic brushstrokes. Her preoccupation with drawing is purely sculptural: it is to capture the essential character of plants through sign-like shapes, strong composition, gestural movement, and visual balance.
