Poetry Story and Song

Poetry, Story and Song is a new, ongoing event held here at TLGUTS to promote the art forms of poetry, storytelling, song writing and performance art. Each event features artists who have received acclaim in their respective art forms. Each performance is geared towards creating an intimate performance opportunity for both the audience and artists, and will be followed by a light reception.

Elizabeth McKim


Elizabeth is a poet extraordinaire. She has published multiple books of poetry, including, The Red Thread, which we carry here in the Subterranean Book Emporium. Reading her poetry is an experience of personal awakening. Seeing and hearing her jazzy smooth style while reading live is another story.

Elizabeth is Poet Laureate of the European Graduate School for Expressive Art Therapy in Switzerland. McKim is also a teacher at Lesley in the department of Creative Arts and Learning, and guest lectures all over the country on poetry and writing and creativity. She lives here in Lynn, MA.

 

  

Don White

One of the nation's best comedic musicians was born and raised right here in Lynn, which gives him by default, charisma wrought with sarcasm, insightful humor, and comedic timing. Top that with a load of songwriting talent, and way more style. If you understand New England funny, he's going to make your face hurt from laughing so hard, or maybe your eyes well up from the sincerity of his performance. White has produced numerous recordings and is also author of Memoirs of a C Student. He lives here in Lynn, MA.

 

Jocelyn Almy-Testa - Writer, gallerist, arts advocate, curator, and artist, Jocelyn dreams in vivid color. She lives in Lynn, with a builder, gymnast, jumping bean, vocalist, and a man-in-arms. Her art work and writing has been seen, read and heard in galleries, coffee houses, colleges, and places we can't speak of throughout New England and beyond.

Alicia Churchill - Writer and whitty conveyour of truths rarely spoken.

Cinda Danh - A 2009 Classical High school Graduate. After living in Oahu, Hawaii and attending poetry slams at the Fresh Café in Honolulu. Cinda, 20 found herself to be deeply inspired by spoken word poetry.  She started her own slam team in Boston. Since then she has performed at multiple places in Cambridge, Lynn, Framingham and Hawaii.

Jeff Pearlstein - djembe accompaniment for various artists

Jeff Savlon - Jeff Savlon is a singer/songwriter and the host of The Gulu-Gulu Cafe Open Mic Shindig in Salem. He is influenced and/or inspired by by the songwriting talents of Chris Smither and Bob Dylan, the rhythm guitar styles of Gabriela Quintero and Richie Havens, and the words of John Steinbeck and Cormac McCarthy. He is also influenced and/or inspired by the great number of artistic and musical talents in his own community. He currently resides in an attic apartment in Salem.
