The Demon and the Vulture

Patrick Moore, a Somerville based painter, bases his works on memories and social commentary. Each piece tells its own story. He creates his works in the round, often setting up multiple easels and moving from one piece to the next as he is pulled in different directions by either impulse or as pieces begin to influence each other. Noting both the irrelevant and reverent side by side within and between his works, he creates a dialog within his imagery that is both ambiguous and metaphorical. He allows the viewer to take a glimpse inside his thought process through written phrases and collected scraps of paper that may or may not have had meaning to him. There is sometimes hesitance in his allowance of the audience's view into his imagination, noted by his backwards writing which is often (but not always) partially painted over. The overall effect is that of rich textures and compositions which are supple and intuitively comprehended by the viewer according to his or her own experiences and memories. He says of his work, "It's about nothing...and everything."
