Color Mixing Workshop with Becky GIbbs

September 19, 2009 9:30am-12:30pm

For mature teens and adults. All levels welcome.
An intensive color mixing workshop that will direct each individual artist toward the discovery of their own personal palette.
Each student will learn how to mix and and will mix and paint an extensive color wheel as well as tints, shades, complements, heathers and browns. Personal color preferences will be explored, as well as how colors relate to each other and convey content and emotion.

This workshop will have a set plan of study, but anyone is welcome to come work on their own projects, with studio space and teacher support for three hours. Everyone will participate in short warm up exercises.

The focus of Becky’s work and her workshops is the exploration of abstract imagery, color, and the use of a variety of media. Becky is an experienced painter and instructor who leads her students through a hands on experience that combines demonstrations, exercises and one-on-one attention during workshops. She has been working in abstraction since 1987, and experiments continuously to push her work in new directions. Conceptually, her work is inspired by nature, and the dual human relationship with it - escape in its beauty, and complicity in its destruction. Various media used include watercolor, oils, acrylics, acrylic inks, india ink and a wide variety of drawing media. Her most recent work in oils is a series called Energeia.

In addition to exhibiting in numerous group shows in the Boston area, her work is in private collections across the US. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Bowling Green State University, Bowling Green, Ohio, in 1983, with continued studies at the DeCordova Museum School, Lincoln, MA. Since graduating college she has lived in Ohio, Tampa, Chicago and Boston. Prior to focusing on studio art, she has worked as an illustrator, silkscreen artist, graphic designer, corporate designer and art director.
